In January 2007, FairPoint Communications announced its intention to acquire Verizon’s wireline operations in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. The transaction required regulatory approval from the Federal Communications Commission, the Maine Public Utilities Commission, the Vermont Public Service Board and the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission.
The necessary approvals were obtained in early 2008 and the transaction closed on March 31, 2008.
